Alan Victor Phillips, 69, of Brandon passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson after a lengthy and courageous fight against prostate cancer. A memorial service will be at 4 pm Saturday, September 29th at First Baptist Church of Fannin. The service will be preceded by a visitation at 3 pm. Al was raised in Louin, MS, and he graduated from Bay Springs HS and USM. He enlisted in the Army in 1960, served in France from 1961-1965, and retired from the National Guard in 1992 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He loved the outdoors and spending time there with his sons and 3 grandchildren.\ Mr. Phillips is preceded in death by his parents A.V. and Marion Gates Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Doris Phillips of Brandon; sons, Kevin Phillips (Brandie) of Naperville, IL and Brent Phillips of Canton, MS; brother, Bill Mason of Hattiesburg; sister, Peggy Rowell of Long Beach; and his grandchildren, Braden, Annalise and Waverly Phillips of Naperville, IL. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Fannin, MS. \
