Rev. Alex C. “Buddy” Cooper, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully to his heavenly home, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation and funeral services were at New Zion Baptist Church in Walnut Grove, MS on Friday, December 26, 2014 with burial in the church cemetery. “Brother Buddy” was a former resident of Hinds and Leake Counties. He served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a survivor of D Day. He was a retired U.S. postal employee and later owned and operated Buddy Tractor Company in Byram. Brother Buddy was also a Baptist minister who pastored many churches all over the state of Mississippi. His love for God was evident to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Cooper, Sr. and Hattie Ashmore Cooper; his in-laws, Tracey and Tressie Jones; two siblings and two precious grandchildren, Doug and Don Jones. Buddy leaves behind his loving wife of over 70 years, Esther Jones Cooper of Florence; son, Alex “Buddy” Cooper III of Florence; daughter, Louise Jones and husband Jimmy of Terry; sister, Jessie Dukes of Clinton; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
