Mr. Alton Burchfield, 94, passed away March 12, 2016 at VA Nursing Home in Jackson. Visitation will be 5-7pm Tuesday, March 15, 2016 and 10am until the 11am funeral service Wednesday, March 16, 2016, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Graveside services will follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park in Jackson. Mr. Burchfield was born April 5, 1921 in Philadelphia, MS. At age 22 he entered the Army and served four years during WWII. He drove an eighteen-wheeler and was employed with ABF for 34 years. Mr. Burchfield was a kind, gentle soul, a quiet, reserved southern gentleman. He loved The Lord and was a faithful member of Wynndale Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and took great pleasure in keeping an immaculate yard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy “Jack” Burchfield and Velma (Agent) Burchfield, siblings, Carlie Burchfield and Patsy Ruth Harrison. He leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Loteal Chesney Burchfield; two daughters, Teresa (James) Lick of Atlanta and Nelda (Val) Moore of Jackson; 4 grandchildren, Carrie Moore, Austin (Lydia) Moore, Tyler (Emily) Moore and Bridget (Jason) Gwizdala; 3 great grandchildren, Garner Moore and Evelyn & Mason Gwizdala and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
