Anna Marie Joe was born September 23, 1947 in Fayette, Mississippi. She was raised in Natchez, Mississippi. As a young adult she relocated to Northern California where she remained a resident for forty-one years before retiring and moving to Raymond, Mississippi in September 2013. Friday evening November 28, 2014 Anna transitioned into eternal life after a courageous bout with kidney disease. Anna is preceded in death by her father Stanton Doss, mother Bernice (Wesby) Doss, ex-spouse Arthur Joe, Jr. and son-in-law Horace Sam. Anna attended Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi then moved to Northern California and began her 39 year career in Civil Service working for the Government of the United States before retiring from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Anna had a way of naturally making those around her feel valued and welcomed. She was known as “a mother and friend to all.” She nurtured many service members on their first assignment away from home and in need of a place to feel loved and accepted. Many of those service members became life-long friends and instant family members who fondly referred to Anna as “Ms. Joe.” Anna lived to serve God and never forsook the fellowship of believers. At her previous church, Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Claybon Lea, Jr. as her Pastor, she was active within the Scholarship Ministry, successfully assisting students of all hues to secure millions in scholarship money to attend Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU’s). At her present church home, Country Woods Baptist Church with Jon Daniels as her Pastor, Anna immediately knew that she found the right place to plant her feet and grow in the word because Pastor Daniels taught and shared the word in such a way that it breathed new life into every sermon and lesson. Anna quickly became active in a Sunday School group and in the Mission Ministry. She proudly boasted about her new church home and her Pastor who she fondly referred to as her friend and next door neighbor. Another great love of Anna’s was her family! Anna is survived by a brother; Willie R. Anderson (Arleen) of Natchez, Mississippi, a God-brother; Herman Lee Wade of Natchez, Mississippi and two sisters; Linda Davis (Anthony) and Betty Colenburg. Anna is also survived by two daughters; Latricia Hauer-Moore (Mario) of Suisun, California and Sundria Sam of Fairfield, California. She is also survived by a son; Reginald Joe (Regina) of Vacaville, California. Anna was proud of her two grandsons; Donte’ Baldwin and Donevan Joe along with her four granddaughters; Sheria Brooks, Aliyah Hauer-Pickett, Morgan Zimmerman-Joe, and Dominique Hauer-Pickett. Anna showered affection on her three great-grandchildren; two boys Tayveon Baldwin and Ezekiel Brooks and one girl Percais Baldwin. Anna had an unending list of loved ones including uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
