Anna Lois Stoufer, 89, peacefully left her earthly body on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother and a joyful, loving grandmother. She was also a creative homemaker, a diligent Sunday School teacher, a marvelous storyteller and a friend and inspiration to many. Visitation will be at Briar Hill Baptist Church in Florence, MS on the evening of Friday, January 27, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning, January 28, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be at Briar Hill Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at New Hope Baptist Church in Mt. Olive, MS at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Woody Stoufer. She leaves behind one brother, Laverne (Polly) Roberts of Madison; daughter, Jane Mullins of Raymond; son, Robert Stoufer of Ouray, CO; daughter, Celia (Cliff) Tillman of Foley, AL; son, Mike (Leslie) Stoufer of Florence; and son, Paul (Donna) Stoufer of Lincolnton, NC; her grandchildren, Amy (Brice) Till, Ian Stoufer, Heather (Mac) McClemore, Laura Stoufer, Carol (Matt) Sykes, Kaitlin (Louis) Wise and great-grandchildren, Harrison and Adlyn Till, Isabella McClemore, Brynn Stingley, Emmett Sykes and Riley Wise. Lois was raised in Mt. Olive, MS and grew up in New Hope Baptist Church where she and her sister played the piano for worship services. She and Woody were long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. She had been a faithful member of Briar Hill Baptist Church for the last 21 years. Lois and Woody loved to travel with their children on “rock-hunting” expeditions. They were members of the Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society for many years. After their children were grown, “The Sandman and his Wife” made many summer trips to Ouray, Colorado. After Woody’s death, Lois also traveled extensively with her sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and S.F. Carlisle, and her cousin “Boots” Statham. They made trips to the eastern and western U.S. mountains, across the country to Seattle, Washington, and cruised around Alaska. Laughter and love of friends and family were the trademarks of Lois’ life and she generously gave of her love and time. She will be missed and remembered by many.
