Anthony “Tony” L. Morgan passed away March 26, 2025, at home surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer. He was born September 23, 1955, in Jackson, MS to Lauris Vernon “L.V.” and Carol Joy (Merritt) Morgan.
Tony grew up in Jackson, MS and graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1973. Following graduation, he pursued a career as a residential electrician for Klinger Electric. He married his wife, Jane (McDowell) Morgan, on August 20, 1976, and settled in Florence, MS. They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary this past fall. In 1979, he began working offshore for Sea Offshore Drilling. After his daughter was born in 1985, he returned to work in the Jackson area as a commercial electrician until the oil field lured him back in 1990 where he remained until he retired as an electrical superintendent from Transocean base offshore in the summer of 2013.
Tony was incredibly hard-working, a problem solver, had peculiar ways, and according to him, always had something “I need to do”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors in general. He had a certain way of doing things and would tell you if you were not doing it the way he told you to. He was an extremely devoted man to his family and friends and for those that had a special place in his heart, he created nicknames. He was considered an excellent provider for his family in all ways, but especially in his loyalty and love for them. His greatest accomplishment was ensuring that his family will forever know the love he had for each one of them. Tony was profoundly loved by his family and friends and will forever be missed.
Tony is preceded in death by his son, Jay Morgan; his parents, L.V. and Carol Morgan; and his sister, Donna Watkins. Surviving in addition to his wife, Jane Morgan, are his daughter, Sara Irene Morrison and her husband, Jared, his daughter-in-law, Misty Morgan Purvis (Jay); three granddaughters, Tori Morgan (The Baby), Ava Morrison (Little Annie Oakley) and Lyla Morrison (Pawpaw’s Yellowjacket).
Services will be held at Chancellor’s Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17th. Visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00 with the service beginning at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tony’s name.
