Arthur L. Land Sr. (Puggy)\ Durant, Mississippi\ \ Arthur L. Land, 80, died Sunday evening at the V. A. Nursing Home in Kosciusko, MS after a long bout with Alzheimer's. Visitation will be held 5 pm until 8 pm Tuesday August 11, 2009, and noon until the 2 pm service time at the First Baptist Church of Durant. Interment to follow in Mizpah Cemetery next to his wife of over 50 years Virginia McLellan Land. Southern Funeral Home of Durant in charge of local arrangements.\ \ Puggy, as he was known from birth, was the son of the late T.J. and Virgie Patridge Land. He and his father bought pulpwood at their yard in Durant and later in Goodman. After his years in pulpwood, he worked for Sta-Home Home Health and sold turnip greens and water melons on the corner of Highway 51 and Magnolia Street across from the Ritz Café for many years. An active member and former chairman of the deacons, long-time teacher of the nursing home Sunday school class, a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, a member the Castilian Lodge in Durant, a Master Mason for more than 50 years, he coached Dixie Youth Baseball for over 25 years.\ \ He is preceded in death by his wife, son Timothy Ben Land, five brothers and one sister. Survivors include Arthur L. Land Jr. wife Anne, Thomas Mitchell Land wife Betty, Sandy McLellan Land wife Caroline; daughter-in-law Kathy Land; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.\ \ Memorial maybe made to: Lifesong for Orphans, P.O.
