Berta Kate Bowles Bridgers, age 105, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014. She was born February 3, 1909 to Alonzo Lee and Lucy Mozelle Bowles, in Attala County, MS. The family moved to Leland, MS, where she attended school. She was employed by Southern Bell telephone Company in Leland after graduating. She met and married Charles S. Bridgers in 1932 and moved to Raymond, MS. After Charlie’s death in 1980, Mrs. Bridgers continued living at her home until moving to Trinity Health and Rehab in Clinton, MS in 2011. Mrs. Bridgers, known as “Aunt Bert” by so many, was an active member of Bethesda Baptist Church. She served in many capacities there including WMU leader, GA leader, Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and many other positions. She shared her love for the Lord with so many people throughout the years. She also had a love for flowers, and she always had a well-kept and beautiful yard. Mrs. Bridgers is survived by her sister Anna Margaret Calvi (Lee). She has many nieces and nephews and loved them all dearly. “Aunt Bert” will be greatly missed by so many, and leaves behind so many special memories for her nephew Billy Charles Mitchell, his wife Frances, and their daughters, Michelle Ball and Millie Bradshaw and families, whom she dearly loved. Visitation will be at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 5-8pm. Visitation will also be at Bethesda Baptist Church in Terry Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 1pm until the 2pm funeral service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
