Bette Braswell Hutto, 75, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Visitation will be 5-8pm Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram and 12:30pm until the 1:30pm funeral service Thursday, May 25 at Harmony Baptist Church in Crystal Springs. Interment will follow at County Line Baptist Church in Crystal Springs. A native of Sunflower County Mississippi, Bette was the youngest daughter of Grover and Agnes Braswell. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Master’s from Delta State University. Bette was professional, resilient, gifted, imaginative, and influential as a teacher and provided a positive impact on students that exceeded just academics. Her career as an educator began in Gretna, LA in 1963, and her career spanned several states and almost 50 years. Her teaching skills served her well in public schools, community colleges, department of corrections, church schools, proprietary schools, and as a tutor. She was chosen as teacher of the year 4 times. Her final 20 plus years as an educator was with the Education Center School in Jackson, MS. She was listed in Outstanding Young Women of America; served as a national officer of the Delta Zeta Sorority; the President of a large proprietary school; a member of numerous councils and advisory bodies: an accomplished horse rider and barrel racer. Mrs. Hutto was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and a step-daughter. She is survived by her husband Rev. Fred Hutto, a resident of Byram, MS; her daughter Ramona Austin, wife of Rick Austin, Clinton, MS; two step-sons, Fred Hutto, Jr. husband of Karen Hutto, Clinton, MS: and Michael Hutto, husband of Ligia Hutto, Ocean Springs, MS; two grandsons; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins and nieces. Bette was a source of inspiration and counsel for her husband. Her life made a positive difference in many lives and she will be missed by those who had the opportunity to know her. There is great comfort in knowing that Bette is now whole with the Lord Jesus in her new home.
