Betty Jean Pridgen Odom died peacefully on August 19, 2013 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi. She is the daughter of William Luther and Fannie Mae Pridgen. She was 83 years young and was preceded in death by both her parents, her son Charles William Odom and her husband of 54 years, V. Ray Odom. Betty, Along with Ray, was a charter member of Oak Forest Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years and sang in the choir for over 20 years. Betty enjoyed reading, bowling, listening to others and her grandchildren. She retired from Gayfer’s where she was a personal shopper and worked in the credit department for 15 years. She also worked at Bell South in her younger years and was a homemaker in between raising her children. Betty is survived by son, David Russell Odom (Denise) of Taylorsville, MS and Diane Odom Martin (Charlie) of Byram, MS. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, three in Texas (Chris, Kenny and Michael Odom), one in Florida (Monica Odom Van Keuren) and three in this area, (Jonathan Odom and Natalie and Kathleen Martin). Her ten great grandchildren live in Texas and Taylorsville, MS. Betty is also survived by her sister, Jo Ann Strength of Jackson, MS and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be 5-8pm Thursday, August 22 and 10am until the 11am funeral service, Friday, August 23, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Lakewood South.
