Billy Ray Byrd, 77, of Florence, MS went to his heavenly home peacefully on July 22, 2022 with his wife and daughter at his side. Visitation will be held at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church on Saturday, July 30, 222 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hickory Ridge Cemetery in Florence, MS.
Billy Ray was born on September 14, 1944 in Mize, MS and has resided in Florence, MS for the past 30 years. He was a longtime member of Hickory Ridge Baptist Church where he served alongside his wife with the Mission Teams. He worked at Air Liquide as head diesel technician for 26 years, retiring in 2010.
Billy Ray loved bowling and woodworking (he built birdhouses, crosses, and so much more). He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan (“Roll Tide”!). He also loved going to his favorite restaurants, especially Mama’s Kitchen. But most of all, he loved his wife and family and his precious dogs, Rocky and Rudie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and brother. He was the last sibling living.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lynda Byrd; children, Becky (Billy) Cook, Bill (Sherry) Byrd, and Shane (Dr. Monika) Byrd; grandchildren, Caleb (Kari) Cook, Hanna Cook, Tabbetha Byrd, Bryan (Megan) Byrd, AJ Creden, and Dr. Sam Creden; and great-grandchildren, MaKynli, Mason, Lawsyn, and Swayze.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff of Castlewood Place Memory Care for their love and care of Billy Ray during his time there and to Enhabit Hospice for their love and care.
