Mr. Billy B. Gleason

Billy Bob Gleason passed away at his home in Jackson, Mississippi on April 9, 2017 after a battle with lung cancer. his family, including his beloved pet dachshund Chief, Hospice Ministries and Covenant Caregivers helped him through the difficult days of his illness. Visitation will be 2pm-3pm Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will begin at 3pm Wednesday in the funeral home chapel followed by interment at Lakewood South. Bill Was born on May 4, 1930 in Aurora, Illinois to Harold and Dorothy Gleason where he spent his childhood years with brothers Jack, Bob and Patt until he enlisted in the United States Navy in October of 1947. He came home on leave to marry Nina Ruth Kuk, whom he declared was “the prettiest girl he’d ever met”. From this marriage of 52 years, they gave birth to five children-Richard, Bonnie, Tom, Billy and Susie. As a family, they traveled the United States relocating with the Navy for the 22 years of active service and finally settled in Jackson where he served as a Naval Recruiter before retiring in 1969. His career as a Chief Petty officer earned him several commendations for excellence in service as expressed by his commanding officers over the years. These years in service to his country made him most proud. For the next twenty years he was heavily involved in Real Estate Development and Sales as well as State and National Politics. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy, brother, Jack, wife, Nina and two of his sons, Tom and Billy. He is survived by two brothers Bob (Anne) of Nevada and Patt (Betty Lou) of South Carolina, son Richard (Dessa) of Texas, daughters Bonnie McKee (Bill) of Mississippi and Susie of Colorado. Grandchildren include Joe (Tiffanie), Heather, Amanda, Missy (Scott), Billy (April), Robert (Carla) and Jamie (Ben). Great Grandchildren include Gunner, Kinley, Aiden, Maverick, Cassidy, Allison, Keegan, Cullan and Quinlan. He leaves us now with memories of stories of his Naval experiences, reminding us of what true patriotism means to those that serve our country and the love of God and family.
