Mr. Billy Dean Mitchell, 82, passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, August 06, 2020 at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m.—10:30 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2020 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram with a graveside service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Terry Cemetery. Due to the current circumstances regarding COVID-19, the funeral home will have an occupancy of ten people in the building at a time. Face masks are required and social distancing guidelines apply. Mr. Mitchell was born to John Mitchel and Annie Byrd Mitchell on September 03, 1937 in Clear Branch, MS. A certified welder, he was employed with Central Welding and Steel for thirty years. After retiring from welding, he worked at Hinds county schools and Hinds Community College. He was also an ordained minister serving at Christ Sanctified Holy Church. He loved all of his family, including his church family. He loved going to Campground Meetings in Perry, GA and taking care of his farm animals. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Mitchell; sons, Billy Joe (Tara) Mitchell of Kerrville, TX, Dr. Tim Mitchell of Charlotte, NC, and Ben (Lynn) Mitchell of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Tia (Clearmon) McCraw of Terry; five grandchildren, Mac Mitchell, Kent Lewis, Cooper Dean Mitchell, Stella Mitchell, and Elisabeth Mitchell; and one great-grandchild, Rebecca Lewis. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Keith Harris, Kindred Home Health, the doctors and staff at MS Baptist, and special niece and care-taker, Patsy McLendon.
