Florence Billy Hez Parker, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at his home in Florence, MS, at the age of 91. He was surrounded by his daughters as he passed into eternal rest.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones for a time of visitation on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with burial in the Garden of Memories.
Billy was born on March 14, 1934, in Noxapater, MS, to O.O. and Lena Ruth Smith Parker. Billy grew up in a loving family and was deeply devoted to his faith and his church. His mother made sure they were always present at Hight Assembly of God. His love for God remained the foundation of his life, and after moving to Jackson, he was a long-time member of Jackson First Assembly.
In October of 1953, at the age of 19, Billy married the love of his life, Mildred Hodge, and together they built a beautiful life full of love, joy, and memories. Their 69 years of marriage were a testament to their deep and enduring bond. Billy’s dedication to his family was unwavering, and he was a true patriarch who cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all his heart. He was loved in return for his Godly character and the way he lived as an example of Christ.
Billy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked on C130 aircraft, ensuring they were properly serviced and fueled. After his time in the military, he became a skilled butcher at McCarty Holman, where he worked for many years before retiring. Even after retirement, Billy continued to bring joy to others by selling insurance, always connecting with people and bringing warmth wherever he went.
Billy was a man of many passions. He and Mildred had a special love for gardening and took great pride in it. They would load the golf cart with vegetables and take them and share with families in the neighborhood. He and Mildred enjoyed fishing and hunting and spent many days together on the lake and in the woods. No matter what they did, or where they went, they always enjoyed life together. He also had a gift for cooking, and those who gathered around his table knew that his meats were the highlight of any meal. Above all, Billy was a giver-he gave of his time, his love, and his heart to everyone around him. His kindness and generosity will never be forgotten.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Mildred, his son Billy Wayne Parker, and his siblings Ruth McLeod, G.W. Parker, and Geneva Smith. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Deborah Pickett (Milton) and Sheila Pearson (Ray); his daughter-in-law Suzanne Parker; his grandchildren Shane Parker (Angie), Candace Pilgrim (Casey), Ryan Hardwick (Amber), Chad Hardwick (Pam), Tim Pickett (Lana), Colton Pearson (Savannah), London Pearson, Hannah Backstrom, Garrett Backstrom, and Jennifer Backstrom; his great-grandchildren Nicholas Hardwick, Madison Hardwick, Aiden Hardwick, Cadence Hardwick, Jack Parker, Rush Parker, Carson Pilgrim, Camden Pilgrim, Sam Pearson, Peyton Pearson, and Emma Pickett; his great-great grandchild, Leighton Parker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Billy’s legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a man who loved deeply, lived faithfully, and left an unforgettable mark on the world.
We take comfort in knowing that he is now with his Savior and reunited with his precious Mildred.
We are so thankful for the hope and promise of Heaven. We know we will see you again.
