Donnie Ray Burns,56 ,of Jackson died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Baptist Hospital, Jackson, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, April 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral home, Byram, MS, with services in the chapel at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, with interment in Lakewood Cemetery, Clinton Blvd, Jackson. Dr. Jerry Smith of Wynndale Baptist Church will officiate.\ \ Mr. Burns was a 20-year veteran of the Hinds County Sheriff's Department serving the last 8 years as bailiff in the Hinds County Court for Judges Patton and Skinner. In January 2008 he was awarded the Jeff Seals Humanitarian Award for service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and gave of himself unselfishly to the care of his parents, the late James O. "Cotton" Burns of Jackson, and Beatrice C. Burns, presently of Liberty Community Living Center, Liberty, MS.\ \ Survivors include his mother, sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Buddy Meyer, McComb, MS., brother Jimmy Burns, Terry, MS., niece, Jan Meyer Hayes and husband Perry Hayes, Germantown, TN, nephews: Todd Meyer and wife Jessica of Meridian, Clay Meyer and wife Kristen of Brandon, Justin Burns of Port Gibson, and Kevin Burns of Florence.\ \ He also leaves behind the staff and friends of the Hinds County Youth Court who for the last 8 years served as his second family, many co-workers and friends who lovingly cared for him during his six month battle with cancer.\ \ On line guest book available at www.chancellorfuneralhome.com.\
