Byrd Rusty Bridges

Byrd “Rusty” Bridges, 77, of Florence, Mississippi, passed away on February 9, 2025. Born on June 25, 1947, Rusty was a graduate of Forest Hill High School in Jackson, Mississippi, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to athletics and family. He furthered his education and athletic career at Delta State University, where he ran track and cross country and played football, excelling both on and off the field.

Rusty spent his life in Florence, where he and his beloved wife, Pat, were married for 53 years. Together, they raised a family and created a legacy of love and devotion. Rusty’s life was rich in friendships, including his lifelong bond with his best friend, Glen “Shrimp” Kimble.

Rusty is survived by his wife, Pat Bridges; four sons, Todd Bridges (Emily), Chris Bridges (Brandee), Jonnie Bridges (Kelly), and Donnie Bridges (Rachel); twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister; and numerous extended family members and friends who cherished him deeply. He was preceded in death by his father, B.R. Bridges, and his mother, Claudine Bridges and sister Brenda Creech.

He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his infectious sense of humor, and his dedication to his community. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on February 12, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, Mississippi. A graveside service will be held on February 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
