Best known for his love of fishing, race cars and bringing smiles to countless children while filling in for “Santa” during the holidays, Lessley “Calvin” Pickett of Richland, MS passed away at the age of 69 on January 19, 2022 surrounded by his children. Calvin was born December 6, 1952 in McComb, MS to William Abner and Lorella Ratcliff Pickett. He was a member of First Baptist of Richland and worked for over forty years as an autobody mechanic. Even in retirement, Calvin could be found restoring vehicles back to pristine condition. An avid car enthusiast, some of Calvin’s favorite times were spent at the racetrack or car shows with his family in tow. Full of stories that oftentimes you heard more than once, Calvin could also be found at his favorite fishing spots, in the woods or at a baseball field. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone, even if they didn’t necessarily need help with it. No matter how busy, he always made time to help family and friends with anything they were working on. He will forever be remembered for his love to his wife, family and friends. He never met a stranger and made a lasting impression on anyone he knew. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bracy. He is survived by a younger brother Don (Cindy). Calvin leaves behind his devoted wife of 41 years, Marina Mees Pickett, and his children, William (Barbie) Pickett, Lee Pickett, Cyndi (Chaz) Hamilton and Krysti (Jacob) Netherland, nine grandchildren—Jessica, Andrew, Austin, Max, Seth, Annee, Payge, Jayden and Nina—and two great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on January 28th from 5:00-7:00pm at the Richland Community Center, located at 410 East Harper Street in Richland. A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
