Mrs. Carolyn Elaine Dungan

March 9, 1942 — October 15, 2018

Carolyn Elaine Tompkins Dungan, age 76 passed away peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2018 surrounded in love by her family at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be Friday, October 19th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 20th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service all at Antioch Baptist Church in the Old Pearl Community. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Carolyn, also known as “Momma, Mimi, and Mamaw,” had the most humble, kind-hearted, and gentle nature which made a lasting impression on anyone that met her. She was the maker of “Mimi’s Bread,” a scrapbooking queen, god-fearing woman, lover of dogs and Elvis! Most importantly, though, she had an intimate relationship with our Lord. She studied and shared His Word daily and diligently – not only at church or through Sunday School lessons or Bible studies, but through the simple way she lived her life. She endured much loss, pain, and suffering throughout the years, yet, never complained to anyone and always kept her faith and trust in God’s plan and timing. Sure, God has a plan and purpose for us all, but I believe He carefully chose this special lady to channel His light, even now. What an inspiration she has been and will continue to be for so many of us. Carolyn was preceded in death by her sons, David Owen Dungan and Eric Dean Dungan; brother, Robert Tompkins; her parents, Willie Belle Jackson and Owen Tompkins and her son-in-law, David Kinabrew. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Dean Dungan, of Florence; daughters, Angela (Gary) Crain of Canton and Kecia Dungan Kinabrew of Florence; 3 grandchildren, Phillip (Amberly) Crain, Daniel Dungan and Shannon Crain Coleman; and 7 great grandchildren, Brayden Crain, Bentley Coleman, Bowen Coleman, Jase Crain, Myles Crain, Abilene Dungan and Dillon Dungan.
