Carruther J. Davis Jr., 91, passed away October 17, 2015. He was born in Terry, Miss., July 6, 1924. A graveside service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2015, at the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Crystal Springs, Miss. Mr. Davis joined the Navy in 1942, becoming an aviator, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. While in service, he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Gold Stars. After being discharged from active duty in 1945, he continued to serve in the Naval Reserve until 1961. After the war, Mr. Davis attended Tulane University, earning an undergraduate degree in 1949 and a law degree in 1951. He was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar Association in 1951. In addition to working as a private attorney, he worked as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service and as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After retirement, Mr. Davis returned to Terry to assist in the care of his mother. He lived the rest of his life in the house where he was born. He enjoyed sharing his bountiful garden with friends and family; watching college and professional football, especially the New Orleans Saints; reading and staying current with local, state, and national events; and caring for his beloved dogs. Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his parents, Carruther Jones Davis and Eunice Nixon Davis. He is survived by his sister, Madge Davis Jones of Clinton; brother William (Bill) Davis and his wife Bobbie of Raymond; brother Cliff Davis and his wife Rita of Mandeville, La.; nieces Susan Davis Egger and Lara Davis Kessler; nephews Mac Davis, Steve Davis, Charles Davis, Kirk Davis and Eric Davis; 12 great-nieces and nephews, two great-great nieces, and one great-great nephew. For the friendship and care extended to our brother and uncle, the family wishes to thank his neighbors John Loar and his family, John and Rita Little, the staff of Mississippi HomeCare and the staff of Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital.
