Charles A. Ballard, Jr., 73, of Raymond, MS passed away on Friday, April 3, 2015 after a brief illness. Charlie was born on September 7, 1941 in Meadville, MS to Evelyn Guice Ballard and Charles A. Ballard, Sr. who predeceased him. He retired from the State of Mississippi having served the majority of his state service with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission where he attained the title of Unemployment Insurance Director. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Ballard; daughter, Christy Bearden (Richard) of Brandon, MS and grandchildren, Amanda Koiner and Hunter Bearden; brother, Sherrell Ballard (Lori) of Flora, MS; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A lifelong resident of Jackson, Charlie attended Provine High School and the University of Mississippi where he belonged to the Sigma Nu fraternity. Some of his fondest memories were of his years at Ole Miss where he played basketball. Charlie continued to be an avid Ole Miss fan and football season ticket holder. He also enjoyed following the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Braves. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. Visitation begins on Tuesday, April 7th at 9:00 at Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church in Byram, followed by the funeral service at 11:00. Pastors Jay Frazier and Glynn Pope will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church, the University of Mississippi or to Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.
