Charles Ray Hooks, 84, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Monday, November 26, 2018. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, November 28th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, November 29th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Gum Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Braxton, MS. Mr. Hooks was born on May 14, 1934 to Hazel Jones Hooks and Troy Cecil Hooks, Sr. in Braxton, MS. He has called Florence home since moving there in 1981 where he was a faithful member and Deacon of First Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his service in the Navy, he served for 30 years with the U.S. Air Force National Guard where he attained the rank of MSGT. Mr. Hooks retired, after 20 years, from the City of Jackson Fire Department as Captain. He loved God, family, and his country. Along with his parents, Mr. Hooks is also preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Hooks. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat Hooks of Florence; his children, Chuck (Laurie) Hooks of Ft. Smith, AR, William (Carol) Hooks of Glennville, GA, Todd Hooks of Birmingham, AL, and Roxanne Tumey of Little Rock, MS; brothers, Troy (Pam) Hooks, Jr. of El Cajon, CA and Johnny (Margaret) Graham of Magee, MS; sisters, Wanda Hilton of Mendenhall, MS and Linda (Darrell) Smith of Foley, AL; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
