Charles M. Brown, 73, went to his heavenly home on September 4, 2009. Charles was born in Simpson County and attended school in Mendenhall. After moving to Jackson, he began working for McCarty Holman/Jitney Jungle stores and worked there many years.\ \ He worked as store manager for numerous Jitney stores in the Jackson area before going into the grocery business himself. He owned and operated three supermarkets, the first of which was located in Florence in Country Village Center. Other stores were located in Byram and Candlestick Park in Jackson. During this time, Charles received the Outstanding Independent Grocer Award from Progressive Grocer magazine.\ \ Charles served in the Air National Guard and received his honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant. After his retirement, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his friends and traveling with his family. He also liked working in his yard, gardening, and watching movies. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Byram.\ \ He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie T. and Syrenthia Brown; four brothers, John Taylor, Woodrow, Frank, and James Brown; and two sisters, Gussie Flannagin, and Willie Riegal.\ \ Charles is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosalie Cox Brown; his daughter Dianne Fairchild of Florence, and daughter Charley Ann Zomar (Reese) of Washingtin, D.C.; three grandchildren, Mitchell and Michael Fairchild and Sydney Rose Zomar; one sister, Jerlene Walker; and a host of nieces and nephews.\ \ Visitation will be from 11 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, with the funeral service at 2 pm. Interment will be at Lakewood South cemetery.\ Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. \
