Claude M. Jackson, 81, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation will be from 2-4pm on Sunday, October 2, 2016. Funeral Service will be at 2pm on Monday, October 3, 2016 all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. He was raised in Winona. He served 20 years in the United States Air Force as a survival instructor and cryptologist for military intelligence in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He later moved to Florence where he resided for 23 years before moving to Vicksburg where he spent the last 16 years of his life. He earned both his Bachelor and Master’s degree later in life. He went through the police academy at the age of 56. He worked for the Florence police department for 5 years winning police officer of the year. He also was employed by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics as a Criminal Analyst and taught at the Oakley Training school for 5 years. He enjoyed playing softball and teaching his sons about sports. Mr. Jackson is preceded in death by his sister, Dora Tardy and brother-in-law, James Tardy. He is survived by his wife, Donnie Jackson of Vicksburg; sons, Robert (Tammy) Jackson of Vicksburg and Mike (Gena) Jackson of Florence; grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Palmer, Leslie (Wendell) Sylvis, Heather (Adam) Ross, Zach (Lorrisa) Jackson and David Jackson; and 6 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
