Clyde Eugene Butler, 87, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be Thursday, December 19th from 5-8 PM at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence and Friday, December 20th from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service at Harrisville Baptist Church with burial to follow at Harrisville Cemetery. A native of Star, Mr. Butler was the oldest of 5 boys. He left high school to enlist in the Navy and finished high school upon his return home. He was a WWII Veteran in the Pacific theater. While in the Navy he was on the LST 843 as a signalman. He was a Master mason at the Harrisville Lodge. For 42 years, he worked as a radio engineer for the Forestry Commission and the State of Mississippi. He was an active member of Harrisville Baptist Church for as long as his heath allowed. A soft-hearted man, he visited the elderly in the nursing homes regularly. He enjoyed gardening and was known for the large tomatoes that he gave away. He was a caregiver; in fact, he met his wife when he took his younger brother to the hospital after an injury. He was married 64 years to, who he referred to as, the “Love of his Life”. Mr. Butler is preceded in death by his wife, Annie S. Butler on June 30, 2013; parents, Wayne and Lillie Bell Butler; brothers, Noel Butler; Ralph Butler, Sidney Butler, and Louis Butler. He is survived by his son, John C. (Wanda) Butler of Bowie Maryland; daughter, Deborah Butler of Los Alamos, N.M. and Barbara A. (Tullis) Duplichain of Richland, MS;5 grandchildren, Sara Butler, Michael Butler, Jennifer (Ryan) White, Ellen (William) Trachman and Dylan Duplichain; 3 great grandchildren, Kathryn White, Meira and Turner Trachman; sister-in-law, Betty Butler of Florence, who he referred to as his sister; and his dog and his companion, Sugar. The family would like to say a special thank you to his caregivers, Sarah White and Zyonda Adams for their never ending compassion. Those serving as pallbearers will be the Masons from the Harrisville Lodge.
