Daniel Edward (Dan) Stewart, 85, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015 at his home in Florence, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, August 9, 2015 for 5pm to 7pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS and Monday, August 10, 2015 from 10am until the 11am service at Briar Hill Baptist Church in Florence, MS. Services will be preformed by Rev. Malcolm Pinion, assisted by Rev. Bob Compere. Burial will follow at Briar Hill Baptist Cemetery. He was born November 14th, 1929 in Canton, MS as an only child to Daniel Owen Stewart and Mae Kitchens Stewart. He served in the United States Air Force and graduated from Mississippi State University with an electrical engineering degree. He was a retired engineer with the MS Public Service Commission. He was one of the engineers who developed the Lunar Rover of 1969, when he was employed with NASA in Huntsville, AL. His hobbies included building and flying airplanes. He had his private pilot’s license and built and flew several airplanes. He was a member of Briar Hill Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member for many years. His is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gwendolyn Compere Stewart; children, Pamelia Smith (Rob), Robin Davis (Tom), Marcia May (Mike), Daniel Stewart (Marcia), Cindy Smith (Rodney) and Wanda Sanford (Pat). Pallbearers are Nathan Anderson, Stewart Davis, Daniel May, Greg May, Christopher Stewart, Patrick Stewart, Robert Stewart, Matthew Waddle, William Sanford and Jonathan Sanford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Briar Hill Baptist Church.
