Daniel Lacey, 84, quietly passed away on September 7, 2022. Daniel is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Kathy Lacey; his son, David Lacey; his daughter, Christi Eckelberry (Martin A. Eckelberry, II); his brother, Joseph (Joe) W. Lacey; his two granddaughters, Elizabeth Bolian (William Bolian), Jessica Nicholas; and two great-children, Lillian Eloise Bolian and William Wyatt Bolian. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Algie Lee Lacey, Howard Estelle Lacey; his father, Charlie Alton Lacey; and his mother, Myrtis Christine Higgs Lacey.

The youngest of four sons, he was born and raised in Thomastown, Mississippi. During the 1970s, Daniel was an accomplished stock (hobby class) racecar driver at Jackson International Raceway in Clinton, Mississippi, and took great pride in the sport for many years after. Daniel was a master craftsman and woodworker who created handmade, solid oak rocking and dining chairs in his business of 27 years, Lacey’s Chair Works. The original location was in Thomastown, Mississippi which was relocated to Florence, Mississippi in 1984. His beautiful, handcrafted works have been showcased in The Natchez Trace Museum, in print, and in other various media.

He was cherished for his dry, often sarcastic sense of humor, his brilliant ability to fix anything, and his tenacity to never give up on anything that he valued or loved. In his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening and yard work, spending time with his immediate family, and he never turned down the opportunity for Sonny’s Barbeque or a great cup of coffee.

He will be greatly missed, but when we think of the beauty and glory he is experiencing in the presence of Jesus for now until eternity, we look forward with a hope and assurance. It is this hope in Jesus that anchors us during this tidal wave of grief.
