Daniel Hampton

Daniel Wade Hampton, 83, passed away October 3, 2011 at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation was Sunday, October 9th from 2-5pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence and Monday, October 10th from 10 am until the 11 am service in the Chapel. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Richland.\ \ Mr. Hampton was born in Lawrence County, MS on the 1st of May, 1928. He married his lovely sweetheart, Mattie Yates on the 5th of June, 1948.\ \ "Dan", as all his close friends knew him as, was an avid sportsman and hunter. He loved nothing better than to be in the woods and hearing his dogs on the hot trail of rabbit, squirrel or coon and he had some of the "Best Dogs" in the country.\ \ Dan retired from the Mississippi State Highway Department with over 30 years of service. He was very loved by all and was quite a character and jokester. \ \ He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Wade Hampton Sr. and Jestie Elzery Thames. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Mattie Hampton of Richland; sons Wade Hampton (Lynn) of Aurora, CO and Mickey Hampton (Jan) of Madison, MS; daughter, Vickie Chancellor (Kenneth) of Carthage, MS; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. \
