Daniel ”Danny” Craig Benton, Sr., 57, of Florence, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, August 4, 2018. He was born on April 17, 1961 in Jackson, MS to William “Bill” David Benton and Patricia “Pat” Ann Murphy Benton. He graduated high school from Forest Hill – Class of 1979. He went to the University of Southern MS where he played football. He was employed by Jackson Fire Department for 28 years, 15 of which he was a fire fighter and the remaining as an arson investigator. During his time as an arson investigator, he was also a canine handler for the ATF and Jackson Fire Department’s accelerant detection canine division. After retirement, he continued his career as an arson investigator for EFI Global. He was an outdoorsman with a love for horses and a passion for dogs. Danny was an avid hunter for a variety of game, but hunting rabbits was his favorite. He was loved by all who knew him. His Lord and his family were the greatest loves of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Florence. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Rachelle Speegle Benton of 37 years; his beloved children, Andrea Adcock (Justin) of Florence, Daniel Benton, Jr. (Tiffany) of Brandon, and Megan Benton of Florence; his parents, Bill and Pat; brother, David Benton of Florence; mother-in-law, Glenda Weber of Jackson; father-in-law, Arthur Speegle of Texas; nephew, William Benton; brother-in-law, Andy Speegle (Leigh Ann); sister-in-law, Leslie Carpenter (Greg); extended family, a host of friends and last by not least, his faithful canine companions “Pearl” and “Gator”. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 6 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence from 5:00pm – 8:00pm and again on Tuesday, August 7 at First Baptist Church in Florence at 10:00am until the 11:00am service. Following the service, interment will be in the Puckett Cemetery. Donations may be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
