David M. Sessums, 86, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his home near Byram. Visitation will be 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram and 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Monday, March 17 at Country Woods Baptist Church. Dr. Charles Ramsey will officiate. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Mr. Sessums was a native of Morton, MS, born to the late Thomas Jacob Sessums and Edna Bell Sessums. He began his career in the Delta, serving as principal in Glendora, Rolling Fork, and Pascagoula, before retiring after more than three decades with Jackson Public Schools. He was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Wahabi Temple Shriner, Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol and held multiple positions in the Jackson Civitan Club. Mr. Sessums was the last of 8 siblings and member of Springridge UMC. He was first and foremost a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Edith Sessums of Byram; daughter Diana Johnston and husband Jay of Byram; grandchildren Dr. Matthew Hunt and wife Virginia of Huntsville, AL, Meredith Hunt Floyd and husband Ray of Mendenhall and Tiffany Johnston of Jackson; as well as great grandchildren Anna, Emma, Maggie, and Audrey Floyd.
