Mrs. Ethel Dean Whyte Owens, 90, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 5-7pm and Friday, March 28, from 10am until the 11am funeral service, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Mrs. Owens was born in Mississippi to the late Harry Eugene Whyte and Alice Ethel Stephens Whyte. She lived her entire life in the Jackson area, where she worked with her husband at Emmett Owens Plumbing and was a devoted homemaker. Mrs. Owens was an avid Bridge Player, member of the Eastern Star, past president of Ladies Auxillary of the PHCC and enjoyed working for the March of Dimes in her neighborhood. Mrs. Owens was a faithful member of Alta Woods United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by parents; brother Harry Eugene Whyte; sister Annie Lois Cousins and daughter Patricia Ann Welburn. Survivors include her husband Emmett Owens of Jackson; children, Emmett H. Owens, Jr. “Buddy” and wife Bonnye of Florence, Miriam Owens Power and husband Mark of Jackson, Gary L. Owens and wife Ronna of Brandon, David B. Owens of Jackson and Teresa Owens Cobb and husband Roy of Jackson; grandchildren, Amy Welburn Bullock, Davey Welburn, Alicia Owens Bowie, Emmett H. “Trey” Owens, III, Mark Power, Jr., Lindsey Power Leach, Logan Power, Leslie Owens, Daniel Owens, Ryan Cobb and Morgan Cobb Smith; 10 great grandchildren.
