Della Mae Ray Hughes died September 30, 2015, at her residence in Terry, MS. She was 82 years old. Visitation will be Thursday, October 1st, 2015 from 5pm-8pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the chapel at Chancellor Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Jordan officiating. Visitation will be at 10am until the 11am service. Interment will follow in the Terry Cemetery. Della Mae is a lifelong resident of Hinds co., after moving from Crystal Springs, MS when she was a small child. She was employed by Hinds County Public Schools for 33 years driving a school bus and cafeteria manager previous to that she worked for several years at the shirt factory in Crystal Springs. She was a member of New Haven Baptist Church also a guest to Magnolia Church both of Ford Rd., Terry, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Herman Ray, Sr. and Lydia Mae Manning Ray, sister, Sarah Willie Ray and brother, John Herman Ray, Jr. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, James (Buddy) Rayford Hughes, Sr. of Terry; son, James Rayford Hughes, Jr. of Terry; daughters, Dianne Ricks (Danny) of Byram, MS and Donna Albright (Steve) of Terry, MS; brother, Glenn Ray (Danzie) of Terry. She was blessed in life with 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Della’s love through life was traveling with family on vacations, sewing, gardening, and her plants. Later in life she enjoyed bailing hay with Buddy and Rayford every summer. She was very involved with the Hinds county 4-H for more than fourteen years with her great grandkids.
