James Delroy Smith, 69, went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2010 at Central Miss. Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram has been entrusted with his services.\ \ He was born to Granberry and Minnie Smith in Pike County on December 4, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin daughters born in 1973, two brothers, Vernon and Howard Smith and his sister, Dorothy Smith.\ \ Delroy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann and two daughters, Angela Smith and Jennifer Palmer (Coker) and his beloved granddaughter, Breann Palmer. He is also survived by two brothers, Harold Smith (Vera) and Memphis Smith (Lela) and his sister- in-law, Beverly Shaw (Phil) as well as special nieces and nephews.\ \ He attended Southwest Community College and Mississippi College. He retired from Canadian National Railroad where he worked as a carman. Delroy was an active member of First Baptist Church, Raymond, where he served as deacon and in the music program, singing in both morning choirs and often doing the special music. He and Ann had the special privilege of visiting the members of First Baptist Church who lived in Riggs Manor.\ \ Delroy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all he met. Meeting the needs of others was a priority in his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling and attending antique car shows.\ \ Visitation will be Tuesday, September 14 from 4:00 to 7:30pm at First Baptist Church in Raymond. The service will be at the church 11:00am Wednesday with a brief visitation beginning at 10am. Dr. Mark Strum will conduct the celebration of life service.\ \ Serving as pallbearers will be Dlayne Moak, Dwayne Moak, Kyle Smith, Keith Smith, Elliott Moak and Nicky Cothern.
