Ed Thornton, 73, passed away August 4, 2015 in Jackson. Visitation is 5-8 Wednesday August 5 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram and Graveside services are 2pm Thursday August 6 at Terry Cemetery. A native of Raleigh, MS, Mr. Thornton was born March 7, 1942 to Lemmie J. and Lelia Curtis Thornton. He was the former owner the Automatic Transmission Service and Jackson Motor Speedway. He was well known in the racing community having drag raced for 50 years and later operating the dirt track in Byram. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmy Dale Thornton and sister Shirley Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patt; his son, Danny J. Thornton, of Florence; his daughter, Sandy McAlpin(Michael) of Byram; grandchildren, Lakin Thornton, Dylan and Evan McAlpin; his brother, John Thornton; his sisters, Gencie Patton, Doris Marble (Jaco) and Betty Anderson Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
