Ms. Dianne Sykes Slay, 61, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Brandon Court Nursing Home. Visitation will be Monday, November 12, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Tuesday November 13, 2018 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Interment will follow at Brown Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Florence. Dianne was born March 21, 1957 in Jackson, MS to the late Johnny and Cynthia Sykes. Her passion in life was law enforcement on her work with juveniles. She served on the forces of Crystal Springs Police Department, Copiah County Sheriff’s Department, Coffee County Georgia Sheriff’s Department, Florence Police Department and she served as a school resource officer in Georgia. Dianne was an NRA certified Police Sharpshooter, and she was certified in Tactical Police Driving. She also enjoyed working in the yard and tending to flowers. Ms. Slay is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronnie Slay, Sr., brothers Shelby and Dale Sykes and her nephew, Rob Sykes. She is survived by her son, Shilo Farmer, of Vicksburg; her daughter, Carrie Farmer of Florence; her brother, Mike (Nancy) Sykes of Oklahoma; her sisters, JoAnn (Mike) Beasley of Petal, Lisa (Darryl) Bone of Flowood and Janette (Roscoe) Singletary of Florence; her grandchildren, John Quaid Farmer and Matthew Hopson; and her “favorite cousin”, Becky Jones. Her children would like to express a special thank you to Aunt Lisa and Aunt Janette for supporting them during this difficult time and the entire family wishes to express tremendous gratitude to the Brandon Court Nursing Home staff for the love, support and amazing care they gave to Dianne, she referred to the nursing home as her “5 star hotel”.
