Donis Rhea Weeks Allen, 95, joined our Lord peacefully the evening of July 16, 2018 with her family by her side at The Blake in Ridgeland, MS. Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS with visitation beginning at 9:00 until the service. Donis was born on July 11, 1923 to Hugh Denver and Adeline Betty Smith Weeks and was raised in the Loyd Star community of Lincoln County outside of Brookhaven. She worshipped at Macedonia Baptist Church, where she met her future husband, William Curtis “Pop” Allen, longtime Athletic Director for the Jackson Public Schools. They were married in the pastor’s home at New Site Baptist Church on June 5, 1944. After the end of World War II, she and Curtis spent their college years at Copiah Lincoln Jr. College and Delta State University. Donis complemented Curtis’s teaching and coaching career by working in the real estate business with Clark Horton, and subsequently becoming a broker and opening Allen Home Sales in West Jackson helping to house families throughout Jackson, MS. Their children were raised in the Jackson Public Schools, worshipping at Robinson Street Baptist Church (RSBC). After RSBC closed, they became active members of Alta Woods Baptist Church. Donis was loved for her classic southern cooking, entertaining her Brookhaven family and Jackson family with every occasion in need of a celebration, on top of the traditional Sunday lunch. Anyone close to her is sure to have been gifted with a crocheted creation made especially with them in mind. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Curtis “Pop Allen”, her parents and her sisters, Katherine Weeks Case and Betty Weeks Smith; brothers, J. Hugh Weeks, Robert Earl Weeks, Denver Gene Weeks, Alfred Barney “Buddy” Weeks and infant Thomas Weeks; sons in law, Donald Lee Gladney and Norman Ellis Johnson; and grandson Casey Green Allen. Survivors include, her children William Curtis “Billy” Allen Jr. (Pat) and their children William Curtis “Curt” Allen III (Janelle) and Carly Patricia Allen Winborne (Wes); Patsy Rhea Allen Gladney Johnson and her daughter Donna Rhea Gladney Floyd (Richie); Henry Hugh Allen (Sharon), his sons Robert Henry Allen (Layne) and William Scott Allen and step-daughter Elizabeth Samson; and Larry Eugene Allen (Thad Hopper); sister Margaret Ann Weeks Allen; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews on both the Weeks and Allen sides. Memorials may be made to William Curtis “Pop” Allen and Henry Spurgeon Allen Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice. The fund benefits Lincoln County students who plan to attend Co-Lin both years – having good sportsmanship and strong Christian ideals.
