Doris Marie Alawine, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on June 20, 1944, Lumberton, Mississippi, she was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her, embodying a spirit that was both nurturing and resilient.
Doris dedicated her professional life to her role as a bookkeeper for the Jackson Association of Realtors, where her attention to detail and unwavering dedication were well-respected. However, it was not just her work that defined her; it was the passion she poured into her family and hobbies that truly illustrated the essence of Doris. A woman of simple pleasures, she found joy in gardening, crocheting, and sewing, crafting not only beautiful pieces but also memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved.
Her laughter and love echoed in the homes of her family, particularly when she was surrounded by her grandchildren. Doris delighted in spending time with them, nurturing their spirits, and instilling in them the same values of love and kindness that she cherished throughout her life. She often recalled the blissful moments spent playing and crafting with each of them, memories now woven into the very fabric of their lives.
Doris's personality was marked by an extraordinary ability to live fully in each moment—she lived, she laughed, and she loved with an intensity that left an indelible mark on her family and friends. Those who were fortunate enough to know her will remember her for her genuine spirit and the comfort she brought to those around her.
She is survived by her beloved son, John Michael Alawine (Rebekah) ; her cherished daughter, Susan Marie Mosley (Joseph); her dear brother, William Hansel (Dottie); and her grandchildren, including Michael Levi Wells, Brandon Maddox, Kristina Cardy, Michaela Alawine, Joseph Michael Mosley III, and Richard Lee Mosley. She eagerly anticipated the arrival of her great-grandson, Jackson, the newest member of her expanding family. Each of them carries a part of Doris with them, a testament to the life she shared with them and the love she imparted every day. Beyond her immediate family, Doris cherished a host of nieces and nephews, each held dear in her heart.
Doris was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Franklin Hansel; her mother, Velma Louise Redmond; her daughters, Tammy Faye Cardy and Theresa Wells; and her brothers, Alec Haile Hansel and Junior. While she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of all she touched.
A visitation will be held in her honor at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, Mississippi, on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Doris will be laid to rest at Beall Cemetery in Lumberton at 2:00 PM, where family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate a life lived to the fullest.
In all ways, Doris Marie Alawine embodied love, simplicity, and family. Although her physical presence will be missed, her legacy of laughter, kindness, and compassion will continue to flourish among those who hold her memory dear.
