Doris Irene Blount

Doris Irene “Rene” Blount passed from this life on February 4, 2023, at Willow Creek Retirement Home in Byram, following a lengthy illness.  She was born June 1, 1934, in Baird, MS to Gordie Ances Watkins and Evelyn Inez Trice.

Mrs. Blount was known by everyone who loved her as “Rene”.  She loved her church, Springs Praise Church and was an active member.  She knew everyone and everyone knew and loved her.  She worked and retired from the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Dallas, Texas.  She also retired from the Copiah County School System as well.  Besides raising her own two boys, she raised grandkids, great grandkids, and even some not related.  She loved all children and could not help but be involved in their lives in a positive and encouraging way.  She could never turn anyone away.  She loved all animals but had a special knack for spotting snakes from a mile away and despised them.  She will be missed by so many for her spunk, great wit, and an unending love for her family and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, George Durwood Blount.

She is survived by two sons, George Butch Blount and Donald Wayne Blount from Crystal Springs.  Along with her sons, she leaves one sister, Lillian Inez Simon in Maryland and five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at Chancellor Funeral Home Byram.
