Dorothy Herndon Cody (91) of Hattiesburg, MS, passed away peacefully, trusting in the promise of eternal life, on the morning of October 12, 2024. She was born November 4, 1932, in Sarasota, FL.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who always put her family first. She spent her life caring for those she loved offering a warm smile, a listening ear, and open arms. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of everyone that knew her.
At a young age, along with her parents and siblings, Dorothy moved to Homestead, FL, where she later met her husband of 60 years, Billy Cody. There they raised their three daughters. In 1984 Dorothy and Billy moved to Florence, MS. Upon her husband’s death in 2012, she made her move to Hattiesburg, MS to live with her daughter.
Dorothy found great joy tending to her lawn, where she spent countless hours nurturing her flowers and creating a sanctuary for the hummingbirds she so enjoyed. Watching those delicate creatures visit her feeders was a source of daily happiness for her. She taught those around her the importance of finding joy in the simple things in life.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Paul) Masters of Naples, FL, Melinda Berry (Jim) Palmer of Ridgeland, MS, Pamela (Scott) Moran of Hattiesburg MS, grandchildren- Brooke (Brian) Grainger of Birmingham, AL, Jessica (Nick) Bailes of Alpharetta, GA, Brandon (Ashley) Lunsford of Braxton, MS, Amanda (Steve) Lick of Ocean Springs, MS, Chad Masters of Fort Myers, FL, Jennifer (Trent) Taucher of Tampa, FL, Hamilton (Kate) Lunsford of Nashville, TN, Robert (Lauren) Berry of Florence, MS, Andrew (Abbie) Berry of Braxton, MS, Joseph (Kacey) Moran of Florence, MS and 12 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Charles and Sallie Joe Herndon, her husband, Billy Cody, son in law, Rob Berry, and granddaughter, Summer Grace Grainger, and her two brothers, Alfred and Willfred Herndon.
Dorothy will be remembered for her boundless love of her family and the support and encouragement she gave to all through life’s endeavors. She will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
