Dorothy “Minette” Skinner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024. She was 86 years old. She was born July 15, 1938, to Noah and Ruth Moore.
Minette was raised in Lexington, MS, where she met and married William Louis Skinner. Minette and Louis made their home in Jackson, MS, where he was a Lieutenant with Jackson Police Department.
Minette is a former member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School with her dear friend, Hilda Shoemake. After Louis’ death in 1971, she returned to school, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, providing the ability to care for their 3 sons and paving the way to her retirement from Jackson Public Schools in the mid – nineties. After she moved back to Lexington in 2021, she became a member of First Baptist Church.
After retirement, Minette enjoyed lunches with her Widow’s Club that she founded to give other widows an opportunity to share friendship and family stories over lunch.
Minette cherished spending time with her best friend, Rita Lum, who passed away four days prior to her passing. Rita’s son, Darrell, summed it up perfectly with his kind words; “Two women having babies develop a friendship that spanned over 60 years and go to see Jesus four days apart, only God could write a story that beautiful”.
