On April 12, 2009, Edgar Eugene "Gene" Sylvester age 64, passed away while a patient at the Veterans Community Living Center in Jackson, Mississippi after a long battle with cancer.\

He was born in Jackson, Mississippi on October 8, 1944. He was self-employed as an air conditioning, heating and refrigeration contractor. He was a lifelong member of Pocahontas Baptist Church. He graduated from Clinton High School, served 4 years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and he was a huge advocate for our soldiers at war. He organized care packages and letters to the US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a member of the VFW Post 2572 in Vicksburg, American Legion Post 112 and the Moose Lodge in Jackson.\

He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Eugene "Sam" Sylvester in 1983. He is survived by 2 daughters Angelia McDonald (Doug) of Magee, MS and Stephanie Shaw (James) of Richland. 1 son, Joey Case (Terri) of Pearl, MS. Mother, Norma Sylvester of West River, MD. 1 sister, Sherry...
