November 24, 1927 — December 21, 2022

Edith Marie Chapman Sessums departed this earth on December 21, 2022 at the age of 95. Edith was born on November 24, 1927, in Hickory, MS, the youngest of ten children. She married the love of her life, David Martin Sessums in 1948. Together they had one beloved daughter, Diana Kay Sessums Johnston.

Edith was the matriarch of a large, close-knit family, and loved them all fiercely. She spent her career as an educator and school counselor primarily in the Jackson Public School system until her retirement in 1981. Edith retired early in order to care for and spoil her grandchildren. She was an active and amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband David and daughter Diana. She is survived by a son-in-law, Dr. John Johnston; grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Hunt (Virginia), Meredith Floyd (Ray), and Tiffany Johnston;  great-grandchildren Anna, Emma, Maggie, and Audrey Floyd, and Garrett and Hayes Hunt. The family will be receiving friends and loved ones, Friday, December 23, 2022  beginning at 11:00am until the hour of service at 12:30pm.  The family will have a private graveside service at Lakewood Cemetery in Clinton, MS.
