Edmond "Paul" Hamel, Jr.

Edmond Paul Hamel, Jr passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024 at his residence in Terry, MS. He was 96. Paul was born in Canton, MS on July 28, 1928 to the late Edmond Hamel, Sr. and Lena Garrett Hamel. Paul was a member of Wynndale Baptist Church. He served as deacon for over 50 years at Hillcrest Baptist Church and Wynndale Baptist Church. He was an avid reader of old westerns and the Word of God. Paul enjoyed traveling, especially to the Holy Land. Paul retired from the City of Jackson; he was a business owner that did appraisals and inspections for FHA and VA. His hobbies include hunting, fishing and golfing; he also loved to grow a vegetable garden. Paul was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed. 

Paul is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Louis Hamel, Leo, Elmo, J.W. and Snap Davis; and sisters, Mildred Wynn and Geraldine Parker.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Doris Hamel of Terry, MS; son, Larry Hamel (Delena) of Brandon, MS; daughter, Linda Christ (Bill) of Fair Hope, AL; grandchildren, Kristopher (Melanie), Blake, Lori (Jason), Brian, Caroline (Dan); great grandchildren, Angel, Dylan, Olivia, Ethan, Kahlan, Kylie, Lily, Cora and Paul; one sister, Etoyle Kayle. The family extends a special thanks to the dedicated caretakers, Katina, Daphne, D and Shenika.

Funeral services for Paul will be on Tuesday, September 3rd at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Family will begin receiving the public at 10am until 11am. Service begins at 11am with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. The interment is going to be at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Blvd in Jackson.
