Edward Thomas Barber, 76, passed away Saturday January 27, 2024, at his residence. A visitation will be Friday February 2, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 am at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in the Old Pearl Community.
Tommy was born September 9, 1947, in Jackson, MS to Tom and Hazel Cole Barber. Mr. Barber lived the entirety of his life in Simpson County. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Germany and the Vietnam War. He was a swift boat operator that took supplies and support to troops behind enemy lines. His family is proud of his heroic service to his country. He was an auto mechanic by trade. Outside of work he was an avid fisher, reader, and jokester. Other things he enjoyed doing was being in the outdoors squirrel hunting and riding horses. The thing he did best was spending time with his family and loving them, especially the great grandchildren. Tommy’s dear friend described him as a man of great wisdom and shared that gift with all who asked.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Hazel Barber, his wife Charline in 2009, and his four sisters. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kim Brown, and husband Lanny of Florence; sons, Mike Barber and wife Stacy of Florence, Steve Barber and wife Sonya of Carthage, Rusty Barber, and wife Teresa of Florence; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister Beverly Garcia of Richland and Brother Gene Barber and wife Jaye of Vidor, TX
