It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Carter Knight, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, who went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2024, at the age of 80. Ed was born on May 6, 1944, in Georgetown, MS, where he was raised in a home filled with love, faith, and the teachings of Jesus Christ. From an early age, Ed exhibited a deep sense of compassion and kindness, qualities that he carried with him throughout his life. He met the love of his life, Iva Mae Scott, and together they built a strong and faithful marriage that lasted 61 years. Their union was a testament to the power of love, patience, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised three children, instilling in them the values of faith, integrity, and the importance of family. As a father, Ed was a pillar of strength and guidance, always ready with a word of encouragement or a helping hand. His children remember him as a man of quiet wisdom, whose actions spoke louder than words. He led by example, teaching them the importance of hard work, humility, and trust in God. Ed, better known as Pawpaw, found immense joy in being a grandfather. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was never too busy to share a story, offer a comforting embrace, or simply enjoy their presence. His legacy of love and faith will live on in their hearts. A Christian, Ed was a member of Jackson First.
He was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering trust in God's plan. Ed leaves behind his beloved wife, Iva; his children, Terresa Russum (Floyd) of Raymond, MS, Cindy Davis (Paul) of Brandon, MS, Mark Knight (Janet) of Terry, MS; his 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, Brother; Timothy Knight, Sisters; Lula Mae Berry and Jeanette Bryant and a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of the Lord, free from pain and suffering.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; Daniel Franklin Knight and Mary Marguerite Knight “Momma D”, Brothers; William Henry Knight, Daniel Franklin Knight “Donzie” and James Thomas Knight, Sisters; Doris Nell Errington and Onnie Belle Sellers and his grandson, Jason Curtis Floyd. A celebration of Ed's life will be held on August 19, 2024 at Jackson First, with a service led by Bro. Steven Mitchell and Bro. Wayne Hall.
