Edwin Douglas “Doug” Yoakum went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at his home in Jackson, MS. He was 78 years old. The family will receive friends and extended family for visitation from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will reconvene at 4:00 p.m. at Old Leeville Cemetery in Petal, MS.
Doug was born on January 11, 1946, to Clyde and Addie Yoakum in Soso, MS. He has lived in Jackson for the past 30 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland. Doug served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He loved cars and won several awards at various car shows. Doug was a strong lover of music and sports, especially Alabama football. “Roll Tide” He enjoyed the peacefulness of the beach and visited as often as possible.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Addie Yoakum; sisters, Martha Pearl Shows and Diane Cook; and brothers, Clyde Yoakum Jr. and Robert “Bobby” Yoakum. He is survived by his children, Connie Baxter of Jefferson, LA, Anthony “Tony” Yoakum of Crystal Springs, MS, John Yoakum (Laura Stoufer) of Florence, MS, Tracey Dillard of Brandon, MS, and Anna Walker (Hunter) of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Jill Bankston, Sarah Baxter, Stella Yoakum, Ella Kate Dillard, Charlotte Dillard, and Maggie Walker; great grandchildren, Alyssa Bankston, Emma Zelaya, Jayden Zelaya, Parker Bankston, and Penelope Bankston.
