Ellen Miranda Barber Marler, age 93, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Marler was born in Prentiss, Mississippi on July 27, 1922. She was the second youngest child of 15 children born to her late parents, Sterling and Mary Barber. Visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 6-8 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. The funeral service will be Friday, October 9, at 10:30 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow immediately at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton, Mississippi. Mrs. Marler devoted her life to her husband and her children. All throughout her life she enjoyed attending many activities involving her grandchildren. She especially took joy in spending time with all her children and their families during the holiday seasons. She was a former member of the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Crystal Springs and was currently a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church since 1956, where she served in many capacities including pioneering the youth program alongside her husband, Thomas. Mrs. Marler also taught Sunday School, Discipleship Training, Girls in Action, and served in the nursery for many years. Mrs. Marler is survived by five of her children, Melvin Marler and wife, Linda of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Ray Marler and wife, Sharon of Crystal Springs, Terry Marler and wife, Sheila of Brandon, Brad Marler and wife, Laura of Jackson, and her daughter, Anita Morgan and husband, Richard of Clinton. Survivors also include 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren. Thomas J. Marler, her husband of 73 years, and daughter, June Odom, and 14 brothers and sisters, preceded Mrs. Marler in death. On line guest book www.chancellorfuneralhome.com.
