Ms. Emma Elizabeth Hemphill DuBose, 94, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Merit Health Central in Jackson, MS. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service on Friday, November 23rd at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Blvd in Jackson. Ms. DuBose was born in Rio, LA on April 3, 1924 to Clarence and Lula Kahl Hemphill. The family moved to Florence in 1928, where she lived all her life. She attended Steens Creek consolidated schools which later became Florence Schools. She worked for Red Ball Motor Freight as a bookkeeper. Ms. Emma enjoyed growing her many flowers and plants. Also, she enjoyed fashion and clothes, and it was evident in her style and the way she dressed her nieces. She enjoyed traveling and her travels took her all around the world. She loved her pets and her family and was famous for saying “I love you and don’t you forget it!”. Along with her parents, Ms. Emma is also preceded in death by her brother, Louis Hemphill; sister, Doris Hemphill Thornton; and nephew, Wally Hemphill. She is survived by her sister, Nell Hemphill of Florence; nephews, Tommy Hemphill and Dale Thornton; niece, Sylvia Garrison; 10 great nieces and nephews and numerous great great nieces and nephews.
