Esther Jones Cooper, 88, went home to be with Jesus Friday, January 2, 2015 at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation will be Monday, January 5th from 1 PM until the 2 PM Funeral Service at New Zion Baptist Church in Walnut Grove, MS. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Mrs. Cooper was born to Tracey and Tressie Jones in Leake County on June 19, 1926. She grew up just outside Walnut Grove, MS. She moved to Jackson in the 1940’s and met and married her husband. She retired from Jackson Cook Company and then the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department. She lived in Jackson, Clinton, Byram and, of late, in Florence. She was active in her church and taught Sunday School. She also helped her husband in the churches he pastored. “She is absent in body but she is present with God.” Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, Alex “Buddy” Cooper; brother, Leroy Jones; Parents, Tracey and Tressie Jones; and grandsons, Don and Doug Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Louise (Jimmy) Jones; son, Alex “Buddy” Cooper III; brothers, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
