Etta Rae Courtney

Etta Rae Courtney, 82, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. She was a long-time resident of Florence, MS. There will be a graveside service held in her honor on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Florence City Cemetery.

Etta Rae was born on December 13, 1940, in Crystal Springs, MS. She served as a mail carrier for USPS for twenty-five years. She was an avid member of First Baptist Church of Florence and was passionate about working in the church nursery for thirty-five years. She loved to cook and garden. She loved God and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty years, Dewey E. Courtney. She is also preceded by her parents, James Vardaman Thedford and Georgie E. Farmer Thedford, as well as her sister, Charlene Howard.

She is survived by her sons, Dewey E. Courtney II, Tim Courtney, and Troy (Patti Lynn) Courtney; her grandchildren, Tristin (Matthew) Martin, Bayleigh Courtney, Caleb (Anna Claire) Courtney, Cody (Katelyn) Courtney, and Cameron Courtney; and her great grandchildren, Addyson Martin and Kyler Martin.
