Garrett Whitehead

Emerson Garrett Whitehead passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at UMMC surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 5:00 p.m.—8:00 p.m. and again at First Baptist Church of Terry on Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Terry Cemetery in Terry, MS.

Mr. Whitehead was born January 26, 1929 in Terry, MS to Thurman and Marie Martin Whitehead. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mary Alice McFarland and Sarah Frances Burkett; and brother, Jake Whitehead.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lurlene Savell Whitehead; sisters, Else Mae Shack and Dorothy Jean Woodruff; daughters, Lavonne Berryhill (Cliff), BJ Drew (Pat), and Beverly Zaremba (Bill); son, Jimmy Whitehead (Jean); 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was a fine Christian man, beloved by all, and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Terry.
